Saxophonist and flutist Heinrich von Kalnein, a German expatriate, has been residing in Austria for almost 25 years. After his studies at the Jazz Institute of the Graz University of Music he developed a distinct voice of his own as a jazzplayer, composer and teacher. He leads his own European quintet, The Heinrich von Kalnein Group. Together with German saxophonist Roland Schaeffer he founded and (co-)leads the trio Free Winds, an internationally working worldmusic project. Since 2003 he is leading the Austrian jazz bigband graz together with trumpeter Horst Michael Schaffer. HvK's recent project: TRILOGIE
